A LETTER FROM OUR YOUNG AMBASSADOR, LAUREN
Hear first hand from one of our Young Ambassadors, Lauren, as she shares her personal story, how BBC Children in Need has supported her and why its more important than ever to fundraise.

THE ISSUES YOUNG PEOPLE ARE FACING:
Right now children and young people across the UK are facing greater challenges than ever, with mental health conditions such as anxiety & depression rising and high levels of poverty leading to inequality & lack of opportunity.
- In the last five years the likelihood of young people having a mental health issue has increased by around 50%.
- Around 1 in 5 children and young people have a probable mental condition.
- 31% of all children in the UK are living in poverty.
HOW BBC CHILDREN IN NEED ARE HELPING:
Every day, BBC Children in Need’s 1,400 projects are working tirelessly in all corners of the UK. In family centres, youth clubs, community spaces, refuges, homeless shelters, hospices and helplines, our project workers are the building vital, positive relationships children need to thrive.
As of July 2025, BBC Children in Need is currently funding:
- 1,404 projects in communities the length and breadth of the UK to a value of £89.9m.
- 605 projects supporting young people with mental health and emotional wellbeing issues, to the value of £35.2 million.
- 694 projects to the value of £37.2 million supporting children experiencing area disadvantage, helping to alleviate the effects of poverty and ensure children have access to personal, emotional and social support.

THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUR FUNDRAISING:
Your school’s fundraising means we can continue to be there for hundreds of thousands of children across the UK when they need us most.
With your support we can make sure there’s someone able to give food, clothes and beds to a child living without; someone qualified to talk to a child who is anxious, isolated or grieving; or someone trained to mentor teenagers in communities facing inequality, violence or lack of opportunity.
Right now we are only able to help 1 in 6 organisations who ask us for funds. Your support matters more than ever before.
