In a time when so many families and young people need support, we are incredibly grateful to primary schools like yours for the efforts you go to in order to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

Thanks to the continued support of all our incredible primary school supporters, the £4 million that you have kindly helped to raised will enable us to support around 30,000 children through 200 local projects right across the UK this year. This means we can continue to be on the ground in local communities up and down the nation, supporting young people facing issues associated with poverty, mental health concerns and the loss of loved ones, helping to provide them with positive and safe spaces

GRACIE'S STORY

“I go to St Clare’s hospice every two weeks to a group that has other people like me who have lost a loved one. My daddy passed away just over 3 years ago and I didn’t know anyone else before I went to “talky group” who was in the same position as me… I didn’t have anyone to talk to.”

“My mummy and sisters and nanny and granddad were always so sad I felt I needed not to talk about me being sad in front of them.”

Gracie was very close to her dad Simon – the two of them loved watching and playing football together and both were big West Ham fans. When Gracie was four, her dad was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his thymus gland, and he died when she was seven years old.

St Clare’s Hospice runs a project that BBC Children in Need supports called Echo Connect which offers one to one and group counselling for children who’ve lost someone they love. Gracie has been going to the project for more than three years and has been supported by counsellor Chloe and also made friends who are going through similar experiences to her.

YOUR SUPPORT HAS NEVER BEEN SO VITAL

BBC Children in Need funds amazing people and projects across the UK to help children be the best they can be.

Last November, we talked about how we can only fund 1 in 8 of the organisations that need us, but thanks to your nursery’s continued support and fundraising, we’ve been able to reach even more children & young people.

YOUR FUNDRAISING DONATION HAS HELPED US OFFER SUPPORT SUCH AS:

£100

pays for a summer residential break for a young girl on the autism spectrum. This will support her to have fun, make memories and build confidence.

£500

will pay for 6 weeks of mentoring for a young boy affected by mental health issues. This will help him to build their self-worth and to manage his feelings.

£1000

will pay for 200 families affected by poverty to have a hot meal and attend an activity session, allowing them quality time together away from the challenges of daily life.

EMERGENCY ESSENTIALS PROGRAMME

4.3 million children live in poverty in the UK – your support means we can now help provide them with the basics they need for life.

BBC Children in Need’s Emergency Essentials programme provides funding to local charities, so they can purchase essential items for families living in poverty. This includes things like washing machines, cookers, blankets, clothing or beds.

Unfortunately, as the cost of living continues to rise, more families are under extreme pressure. The expense of replacing a broken appliance, or a new piece of furniture, is out of reach for so many.

“We had a black mould problem in our house, and it ate through all of the mattresses and bedding. It was affecting the kids’ health, their performance at school because they weren’t getting enough sleep...everything. The new mattresses have been life-changing for all of us.”

PRIMARY SCHOOL IMPACT

This year, the Emergency Essentials programme has supported 24,930 children affected by poverty. Your fundraising donation will allow us to be there again this year for the children that need us most.

One of the most requested items from Emergency Essentials is beds. It’s estimated 400,000 children in the UK are going without a bed of their own at the moment – that’s why the funding like this is so vital. Thanks to your help, we can provide beds, mattresses, and blankets for families and children in need.
