BBC Children in Need Uploader Privacy Notice

!For Parents/Guardians! In this we say ‘your’ and ‘you’.  If you have entered for your child sometimes this means ‘your child’ or ‘your child’s’ and sometimes this means ‘your and your child’s’.

We want to let you know that your information is safe with us. This is just a quick word to let you know how we handle your information when you send your creation to us on this Uploader.  The Uploader is a BBC service and the BBC has let us use it so you can easily upload your creation.   This means that BBC Children in Need is the data controller of your or your child’s personal data and that the BBC is the data processor.  BBC Children in Need will only use your personal data to:

  • allow you to use the Uploader to submit your creation and storing your creation;
  • review the creation to see if it meets our requirements;
  • use the creation as needed as set out in the competition Terms and Conditions; and
  • contact you about your creation if we need to.

What information do you ask me for?

If you are under 16 you will need to ask your parent/guardian (who must be over 18) to complete the details and they must send your creation to us.  We’ll have the information from your BBC account and the details completed and sent to us.

Why do you ask me for it? How can BBC Children in Need use my information?

If you win, we might publicise your name and age!

We’ll use the information you provide and your account information (such as name, email address, date of birth/age, gender and location) to make the Uploader personal to you and to run the competition.  We may use your details to send important messages to you about your creation.

Why do you need it?

When you use the Uploader we have a “legitimate interest” to process your personal information to check your BBC account, provide you with access to the Uploader and use your creation as described here and in the competition Terms and Conditions (we need a great duck for  our annual duck race to help us raise funds!).

How long will you keep my creation and information for?

Your creation and information will be kept until 13 July 2020 and after that will be deleted.  But if your creation wins we will keep it and your details for 7 years.  Any information about you in relation to your BBC Account will be kept in accordance with the BBC Terms.

Sharing your information

If your creation is shortlisted, we will share it with our partners Greggs plc and Twinkl Ltd so they can choose a winner (but your personal information won’t be shared with these companies).

  • BBC Children in Need website and social media, other websites and social media-Your creation may appear on the BBC Children in Need website, online shop and social media to support the live televised appeal and in respect of the work that BBC Children in Need do all year round. We may also share your creation across other websites or social media as part of a marketing plan.
  • BBC Children in Need Written Publicity / Promotional Material- Your creation may be used for BBC Children in Need’s Annual Report, Fundraising Pack, e-letters and other materials sent to fundraisers and corporate partners of the charity.

If you have a concern about the way the BBC or BBC Children in Need has handled your personal information, you can raise your concern with the supervisory authority in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) https://ico.org.uk/.

Updating this privacy notice

We will revise the privacy notice if there are important changes to how we use your personal information.
