Areas of interest

We want to ensure we are funding areas of need which are not strongly represented in our current portfolio of grants. This is so we can create positive and lasting change across the UK for the children and young people who need us most, helping them to thrive and be the best they can be.
Geographic areas of interest are identified as having high levels of children and young people living in poverty, mapped against BBC Children in Need investment in that area.
Thematic areas of interest are informed by our research work, current investment and knowledge of the infrastructure at a local level.
How do we do this:
- We look at where the projects we currently fund are delivering. As well as what are the barriers the children and young people are experiencing.
- We take into account the needs identified by our research team.
- We listen to the voices of children and young people.
- We listen to projects who tell us of the emerging needs of children and young people.
We do not want the areas of interest outlined to act as a barrier for organisations applying to BBC Children in Need. They do, however, inform discussion and help us attain a balanced portfolio.
