Stable Life: sparking a positive change
Young people can teach us so much about resilience and determination. They make anything feel possible.
My name is Carol and I’m a project worker at Stable Life. For me, there’s nothing better than feeling you can make a difference to a young person, no matter how small.
Our motto is “A hand to hold, a heart to heal and a horse to hug.”
We help young people experiencing personal challenges to develop trust and a special bond through the eyes of a friendly animal, in this case a horse.

Many young people face so many challenges and difficulties that can make them feel shut off, but it’s amazing to meet incredible young people who never want to give up.
My role is all about building positive relationships and encouraging friendships, helping young people to reach a brighter, healthier and happier future.
Every week, we run tailored sessions which use games to make learning fun, non-confrontational and impactful. The horse and the environment help to raise self-esteem and promote awareness and reflection.
It’s a great privilege to be part of a young person’s journey; be it a smile or someone making eye contact or just speaking up.
There are never enough thank yous to say how grateful we are for the continued support of BBC Children in Need. The money provides valuable funding which makes such an incredible difference, allowing us to offer and facilitate these sessions and helping the young people to feel supported, safe and included.
