The Difference Your Primary School’s Fundraising Makes

JO’S STORY

Jo is a young carer who looks after his seven and nine-year-old younger brothers. He also looks after his mum who has a chronic illness, which means she sometimes can’t get out of bed. She is unable to work and finances are a constant strain for the family.

Jo tries to take the pressure off his mum as much as he can – doing the washing, cleaning the house and keeping up with the family’s daily needs. The family’s washing machine recently broke down. They couldn’t afford to replace it and dirty clothes were piling up. The family were given a new washing machine through BBC Children in Need’s Emergency Essentials programme, which means Jo and his two brothers now have clean clothes for school. Jo feels a little bit lighter knowing that, at least for now, one of his worries has been taken care of.

The BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme supports children and young people facing exceptionally difficult circumstances, providing items that meet a child’s most urgent basic needs.
