Two project workers from Nightsafe beside the Christmas tree they have put up

Christmas at Nightsafe

Earlier this year, DIY SOS descended on Blackburn to renovate St Silas’s Parish Room in a DIY SOS Big Build: BBC Children in Need special.

Nick Knowles, the team of purple shirts, and hundreds of volunteers and tradespeople from across Blackburn with Darwen spent two weeks working to turn the old parish hall at St Silas’ Church into accommodation and a support centre for Nightsafe, to provide support and a home for young people between 16 and 18 who are homeless.

The building was completed in September, with vulnerable young people moving into the accommodation shortly after. Now that the young people are settled in and living in their new home, we’ve been back to visit and find out what they’re looking forward to over Christmas this year.
