PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is just one of those projects, and they provide vital help to young people experiencing suicidal thoughts.

In particular, your donations fund Claire, a Suicide Prevention Adviser on PAPYRUS’s helpline, HOPELINEUK.

Claire and the HOPELINEUK team respond to calls, texts and emails from children and young people experiencing suicidal thoughts, providing them with confidential spaces to talk, help to stay safe, and advice on further assistance.

One person the team have supported is 13 year old Annika. Two years ago Annika’s cousin ended his life by suicide.

Sadly, losing loved ones this way can prompt suicidal thoughts. In trying to understand his death and her grief, Annika felt low and hopeless.

As Annika struggled to share her feelings, she isolated herself from family and friends. She developed her own suicidal thoughts and planned to act on them.

Searching for help online she found HOPELINEUK and bravely picked up the phone.

The adviser listened, letting Annika tell her story out loud for the first time, and start to feel understood. Together they disabled Annika’s plans for suicide, planned to stay safe and found further support.

Having a safe space to talk saved Annika’s life, and your donations help to make that possible.
